Sea Kayak Island Odyssey | Jungle River Journey
Jungle River Journey - 4 days 3 nights

Day 1:
Arrive Placencia. Transfer to hotel and meet this evening for a trip briefing.
Day 2:
This morning we depart early to drive from Placencia to the deep southern region of Belize and the village of Blue Creek. Along the way you will feel you are going back in time, passing numerous small Maya and Garifuna villages, where local women can be seen doing their washing in creeks. We make a stop at Nim Li Punit, a small Mayan archeological site known for the second longest stella in the Maya World. After lunch at a local restaurant we continue into Blue Creek. Blue Creek is a picturesque Maya village nestled in the foothills of the Maya Mountains. The region is marked by limestone/karst formations which allow for the formation of numerous cave systems. The Maya in this area still live a simple traditional lifestyle living in palm thatched houses and cooking over fire hearths. The afternoon will be spent exploring Blue Creek Cave. Caves were used by the ancient Maya for rituals and were the entry into the underworld or Xibalba. In Blue Creek Village we will stay in a simple guesthouse run by a Maya Family who are members of the Toledo Eco-tourism Association (TEA). Our meals will be prepared and shared with the local families who are members of the TEA, giving us a first hand glimpse of the Maya way of life. Overnight Blue Creek. L,D
Day 3:
After breakfast we depart for the Bladden branch of the Monkey River. We load our boats and begin our 2 day journey down the Monkey River, paddling into isolated areas full of wildlife. You may spot crocodiles, monkeys and iguana while paddling down this gently flowing river. In the evening we will set up camp on a sandbar and fall asleep to the exotic sounds of the jungle nightlife. B,L,D.
Day 4:
Today we continue paddling downstream into Monkey River Village, which is where the river empties into the Caribbean sea. After lunch at a local restaurant, we will take a short walk through the village before the boating back to Placencia in the afternoon. B,L.
